Dr. Elsa S. Canales M.D.
Dr. Elsa S. Canales is board certified in Gastroentrology and Internal Medicine. She obtained her BA from the University of Texas at Austin and received her MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in Gastroenterology from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Canales joined Dr. Monte D. Allen in 2004 and together they formed Gastroenterology Consultants of Laredo.
Dr. Canales’ clinical interests include gastroenterolgy and hepatology. Her training includes colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), enteroscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), flexible sigmoidoscopy, liver biopsy, paracentesis, video capsule endoscopy and hemorrhoidal ligation.
Dr. Canales has been involved in numerous clinical research projects including studies regarding Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Adult and Pediatric Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and Ulcerative Proctitis.
Dr. Canales is Board Certified in Gastroenterology by The American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).
Dr. Canales enjoys spending time with her husband, four children and family and friends. She loves traveling the country and cooking.
Dr. Alfredo Camero Jr
Dr. Alfredo Camero Jr. is a native of Laredo and graduated from Alexander High School. After high school, Dr. Camero attended Texas A&M University where he majored in biomedical science. Afterward, he attended UT Health San Antonio for medical school where he graduated with honors including admission into both Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Camero is board certified in Gastroenterology by The American Board of Internal Medicine.
He completed his internal medicine training from 2012-2015 at UT Health San Antonio where he worked at both University Hospital and the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital. He was invited to be a chief resident from 2015-2016. Choosing to specialize in gastroenterology, he then completed his gastroenterology fellowship at UT Health San Antonio from 2016-2019, where he served as chief fellow during his last year of training.
Dr. Camero’s clinical interests include endoscopy and colonoscopy, colon cancer screening, esophageal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, cirrhosis management, and more.
Dr. Camero is credentialed at Laredo Digestive Health Center, Laredo Medical Center, and Doctors Hospital of Laredo.
